Hey there, theorists! We’re super excited to announce our first knitalong of the year (and honestly in a while). We’re coming in hot with the perfect accessory to keep you warm through this blustery weather: Cowltopus by Laura Nelkin.

I can hear some of you now. “Ugh, Shea, brioche! I don’t wanna!” THAT’S OKAY! Laura has designed this pattern with a ribbed option as well, so if you’re not into brioche, you don’t have to do it, but as always we encourage you to branch out and push your skills. Laura has a wonderful playlist of helpful videos to help you through the whole project that you can find here.
Because this project is worked primarily on US6 & US7 needles, you have a lot of flexibility on what yarns you can use. The pattern calls for DK, but you could absolutely use worsted and have a wonderful finished project. Essentially you will need 196yds each of two colors, and I’m planning to use up some of my scraps and mix in a more solid, unifying skein for the remainder. This would also be a fun opportunity to add a strand of something fluffy like mohair or alpaca to give it extra softness.
This KAL will officially start this Friday, January 31st and run through the end of February, but you’re welcome to cast on as soon as you’re ready. We hope you’ll join us on this adventure, and remember that if you have any questions you can always reach out to us by email (stringtheoryyarnshop -at- gmail -dot- com) or stop by the shop for help.
